The degree programme trains students for a variety of tasks in social service field in Finland and in international contexts. Studies in English and a multicultural study group offer the students an opportunity to interact and learn in a real international learning environment.
The specific focus of the programme is on community development work, having emphasis on people’s participation and empowerment, and on identification and fight against different forms of discrimination in societies.
The course aims to train professionals who are competent to work for socially sustainable communities both in Finland and abroad. Students learn social work and social policy issues from the Finnish, European and the global perspectives. They gain skills to carry out social analysis and action, to implement participatory research, and to analyze local conditions in relation to wider economic and social changes.
It is not possible to qualify as a kindergarten teacher through this programme.
